NB Physical Literacy Talks about the Importance of Practicing off the Ice at the Capital Winter Club!

November 4, 2018

Parents of the Little Rocks curling program received some extra information about why the club implemented an off ice physical literacy program on November 4, 2018 at the Capital Winter Curling Club in Fredericton.

The off-ice physical literacy program developed for the Little Rocker’s at the CWC was implemented in partnership with the Curling Centre of Excellence based out of Moncton. The new physical literacy component has the children taking initiative to make up physical literacy obstacle courses that allow for practicing balance and building upper body, lower body and core strength needed in the game!

The parents had the opportunity to learn all about the importance of physical literacy, view and participate in the CWC’s child-friendly version of “off-ice training”, hear from the pros and learn about the Curling Canada Long-Term Athlete Development Model (LTAD) which shows how to develop curling athletes from first engagement to life-time participation or playing competitively.

Our NB Physical Literacy Consultant, Taylor Devlin, who has a background in competitive curling, even had the chance to get out on the ice and help with coaching the children’s program and see the program first-hand.
